Rebuilding Together Refurbishes Pulaski home

The MCL family group thanks Lowe’s for its contribution to the Rebuilding Together project.

On October 13 and 14, volunteers from Rebuilding Together of Greater Green Bay (RBTGB) will be replacing Kathy Short of Pulaski’s roof. RBTGB was recently awarded a grant from Lowe’s Hardware, which has helped make this project possible. Short, who has been battling Multiple Sclerosis, is in a wheelchair permanently. She calls Pulaski her home, residing at 419 S. St. Augustine Drive, and without the help of these two organizations, keeping her home safe would not be possible. RBTGB refurbishes older homes and makes them safe and livable, completing all projects within a few days. Typical projects include painting, roof replacement or repair, landscaping, electrical, plumbing upgrades, laying carpet and building ramps.

According to RBTGB President Mark Bonovetz, "This project would not be possible without the invaluable contributions and skills of our partners from the carpenters, electrical, and plumbers’ unions, and our corporate sponsors who contribute money for supplies and so many willing volunteers. A big thank you to the Lowe’s Hardware grant as well, as without them, we would not be able to help deserving community members such as Kathy. It is as rewarding for us as it is for the homeowners to see what can be accomplished by so many people with so much goodness in their hearts. It is really a wonderful undertaking, and so rewarding for us all."

Since 1994, Rebuilding Together of Greater Green Bay has been restoring, refurbishing and making homes safe for qualified elderly and/or financially or physically challenged homeowners in the greater Green Bay area. Since the start of the organization, RBTGB has sponsored and refurbished about 10-15 homes a year.

The Green Bay chapter of Rebuilding Together is part of a National Organization by the same name, based in Washington, D.C.  In total, about 250 chapters exist throughout the U.S., including local ones in Manitowoc, Sheboygan, Milwaukee, and the Fox River Valley.
